During the American War for Independence, the term “Tory” was a pejorative used to describe those loyal to the crown. They were seen as traitors to the cause of liberty who turned tail and ran for King Georgie when the red coats came a marchin’ in.
As reported on this website over the past few months, the leaders of the National Rifle Association cut a deal with congressional democrats on the DISCLOSE Act — the federal bill that would impose free speech limitations on groups like Wisconsin Gun Owners (WGO). The bill would also force us to “disclose” our membership list.
The deal NRA leadership cut with democrats was denounced even by those poor liberals in the press who think the NRA is some bastion of conservatism. It was plain as day to everyone that they were trying to save their own hide.
Now, I don’t much care for calling out NRA leadership when it sells us out. It’d be much easier if we’d all just “stand united.”
But we don’t stand united with anti-gunners. We don’t cut deals with Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, or even state legislators.
You see, there are times we’re not left with any choice but to speak out.
So, now that the DISCLOSE Act is finally defeated, or at least stalled, thanks to the hard work of WGO activists, where are ye Tories now?
It makes one wonder how the Tories of yesteryear felt as the patriots celebrated their hard-fought independence from England, doesn’t it?
The Tory no doubt believes he will escape torment by fleeing back to his oppressor. But at some point the oppressor is defeated, leaving the Tory to hide his head in shame and face his neighbors.
The NRA cut a deal with democrats. It gained them nothing.
Let’s not forget this treachery. In our darkest hour, it’s good to know who can truly be counted on to fight the good fight.
