David Olofson Out of Jail, But Needs Your Help

| April 25, 2011 | 7 Comments

David Olofson has been subjected to a gross miscarriage of justice. What happened to Olofson could happen to any American who owns a semi-automatic firearm.

He was convicted of knowingly transferring an unregistered machine gun – a gun which fired a burst and jammed. Gun owners call that a malfunction. The federal government calls it an easy way to get a felony conviction. Olofson was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.

David Olofson is an information technology professional with a wife, three children and a mortgage. Until his conviction, he was also in the National Guard.‏

GOA took his appeal to the Supreme Court which declined to hear it. This was in spite of the trial court having ruled in direct opposition to a recent decision of the Supreme Court itself!

Olofson has served his entire sentence, but is having trouble finding a job. As a result, David has started his own business, Joules of Nature.

I read the aff of the case Olson placed a three select fire switch on the AR-15. Dude he was making a full auto machine gun then was stupid enough to sell it. Even though I can’t stand the gov Why would you pull your pants down and give them a target? You know they are looking for anyone they can make an example of. Former Texas gun nut still on your side Olson, but wow what a screw up.

The transcript from this trial is online if you search for it. I am definitely not one to side with US on punishing people for guns but this isn’t just a case of a malfunctioning gun.

Under questioning by the ATF he admitted to altering the lower receiver and using actual M16 parts as well installing a three position select fire switch. He also admitted he knew it would fire 3-4 shots then jam.He was trying to sell it to his friend for a very inflated price. The friend was buying it because it did this.

The bottom line is he got busted.

Exactly. Validity of gun laws aside, Olofson was exhibiting a special kind of stupid. Not necessarily because he chose to modify the gun, which is an issue all its own, but moreso because he chose to let it see the light of day in someone elses hands. The icing on the cake is his attempting to sell it at an inflated price due to its ‘unique’ ability to mimic a select fire firearm. That, my friend, is opportunistic greed backed by a total disregard of plain common sense. Did I mention monumentally stupid?

I’ll be keeping Lou Dobbs on my list of people not to trust when it comes to truthful reporting. Olofson broke the law and was caught doing it. End of story. I thought it sounded fishy and it was. Dobbs you are a jackass. If I see any of your articles I’ll know not to listen.
