Knock, knock.
After WGO mailed its Spring-Summer 2025 newsletter to its members, which highlights some of the gun rights initiatives WGO is working on—including our strong push for Constitutional Carry in Wisconsin—there have been some late-breaking developments that didn’t make the newsletter.
State Democrats have just snuck in a massive gun control package, which they hope will fly under our radar and get passed in the dead of night when no one is paying attention.
The gun control package includes:
• SB329—“Extreme risk protection orders”—aka red-flag gun confiscation
• SB332—Prohibiting undetectable firearms (whatever)
• SB336—Prohibiting private gun sales (sell your buddy a gun, go to prison)
• SB330—Resurrecting the failed joke of handgun waiting periods in Wisconsin
At press time, Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. (WGO) was the only organization to have registered its opposition to the bills with the Wisconsin Ethics Commission.
Only 21 states have enacted some form of extreme risk protection law (aka “confiscate your guns without due process, ask questions later”), but now, with State Republicans and the institutional gun lobby asleep at the wheel, the threat of red-flag gun confiscations has taken the next terrifying step toward becoming a reality.
At press time, Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. (WGO) was the only organization to have registered its opposition to the bills with the Wisconsin Ethics Commission.
So far, WGO has stopped Wisconsin legislators from enacting such a law in this state, but the screams from the control freaks in Madison only grow louder.
In these so-called “red-flag laws,” there is no penalty for someone who calls in a bogus red flag on you to have your guns confiscated.
In fact, in some locales, simply purchasing a gun or ammunition marks you as a “dangerous person,” which can trigger a massive law enforcement response descending on your home, complete with trigger-happy SWAT teams and no-knock raids.
As a reminder, here’s how red-flag risk orders work: someone reports or “red flags” you to the government. A secret court (one that you are not allowed to attend or even have representation at) decides if you’re a “threat” and issues a gun confiscation order.
Just like that, your gun rights are gone … no due process, presumption of innocence, or legal defense.
All it takes is for a nosy neighbor or disgruntled ex-spouse to report you. Doctors will now be asking you if you own guns and could report you. Even if someone downright lies about you, you have no due process to refute the allegations … until after they take your guns.
The legal costs of hiring an attorney and having your firearms returned, as well as clearing your name, could easily reach hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Gun owners watched with horror as federal “Fusion Centers” were established after 9/11 to consolidate resources and build a 1984-style surveillance grid to watch the millions of citizens placed on the feds’ unconstitutional watchlist.
Now WGO is warning that kind of federal resource centralization could be amassed to use against gun owners in the Badger State.
ACTION:
- SIGN THE ONLINE PETITION OPPOSING so-called “extreme risk restraining orders” or red-flag gun confiscations in Wisconsin. Make no mistake, it will trash due process, and we cannot allow it to become law.
