Soviet-Style Gun Grab Marching Through WI Legislature
Madison, Wis. — Legislation marching through the Wisconsin legislature would endanger firearm rights for gun owners and—even more seriously—imperil liberty for all Wisconsin citizens by outlawing lawful commerce of private property between individuals, reported Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. (WGO), referring to the bills as a “Soviet-style clamp down on the right to buy, sell and trade without government permission.”
Assembly Bill 138 and Senate Bill 124 would broaden firearm background checks forcing individuals buying and selling privately owned property—in this case firearms—to conduct all transactions through federally-licensed firearms dealers (FFLs), and would threaten sellers who do not comply with prosecution.
As the state’s largest gun rights organization, WGO has always opposed background checks, regarding them as an unconstitutional infringement of the right to keep and bear arms. Gun background checks have utterly failed in their original stated purpose of preventing the possession of guns by violent criminals, a fact corroborated by the FBI’s own crime data, WGO reports.
“This legislation represents further expansion of the unconstitutional big government background check system and will do nothing to stop criminals from getting and using guns illegally,” said Corey Graff, executive director of WGO. “What it will do is further pave the way for the out-of-control national gun registration scheme—which is the real nature of the National Instant Check System, or NICS.”
According to WGO, supporters of the legislation claiming expanded background checks are now needed implicitly admit the system itself has failed, vindicating what gun owners have said from day one: Violent criminals will get guns on the street, no matter what gun control passes, while background checks only serve to infringe on the rights of lawful gun owners—background checks will therefore never stop expanding, nor will they ever achieve their aims.
“This legislation threatens everyone’s liberty, even those who don’t own guns,” said Graff. “Imagine the State forcing people to seek permission and prove their innocence before they can buy or sell private property. That ought to send chills up everyone’s spine.”

Most of us are smart enough to know that you can’t stop criminals by passing more stupid laws.
Does anybody know how I can get a hold of Wisconsin representatives so I can give them a piece of my mind?
I have not always been a gun owner(since i turned 18) but since I have become a gun owner(3 years ago) I have taken gun ownership from a new perspective. Our nation’s RIGHTS give us the opportunity to 1st-give us an avenue to speak up against what is wrong and 2nd-back up those words with the necessary force to have those words really and truly mean something. Infringing on the rights of persons to have private property and trade that property to others is not a privilege. Any law placed before the public legislature that infringes on the rights to private sale of ANYTHING is a slap in our face, and should be fought with the same ferocity that we defend our rights that are protected under the 1st-10th amendments to the constitution FOR(not of) the United States.
