Wisconsin Democrats Introduce Trigger Lock Gun Control Legislation

Will State Democrats explain how a trigger-locked gun, such as this Glock, can be accessed quickly for self-defense?

Will State Democrats explain how a trigger-locked gun, such as this Glock, can be accessed quickly for self-defense?

From mandating trigger locks in Wisconsin for gun owners and gun shops to a dangerous entrapment scheme, the anti-gun bills have it all.

Madison, Wis.—Democrats in Madison introduced a massive gun control package of bills this week aimed at mandating trigger locks and creating what Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. (WGO) has called new, dangerous “lock up your self-defense” and entrapment schemes for gun owners.

“It proves what we always warn about: The anti-gun lobby is constantly on the offensive,” said WGO director Corey Graff, “and never satisfied until all guns are outlawed and all gun owners are in prison.”

The gun control blitzkrieg includes five bills.

  • AB952/SB948: Relating to: storage of a firearm in a house in which a resident is prohibited from possessing a firearm. (Disarm everyone in the home scheme.)
  • AB953/SB946: Relating to: containers or trigger locks provided at a firearm sale. (Force gun shops out of business by spending thousands on extra trigger locks no one will use.)
  • AB954/SB947: Relating to: a requirement to report lost or stolen firearms. (Gun owner entrapment scheme.)
  • AB951/SB945: Relating to: storage of firearms in retail facility when unattended. (Force gun shops out of business by mandating all guns be placed in a safe at the close of business each day.)
  • AB943/SB949: Relating to: going armed at a polling place and providing a penalty. (No right to bear arms when exercising the right to vote scheme.)

In addition to filling more landfills with unused trigger locks—hardly supportive of sustainability and being “green”—WGO pointed out that AB954/SB947, which would make failure to report stolen firearms a felony, is a slippery slope to entrap gun owners.

WGO said that, under that legislation, you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. First, you’re victimized by the theft itself, then State Democrats throw you in prison for not dotting every “i” and crossing every “t.”

WGO said that trigger lock requirements have long been discredited and referred to them as immoral overreach, forcing people to “lock up their self-defense.”
