Nadler Declares Assault Weapons Ban Targets Commonly Used Firearms

| July 21, 2022

Rep. Jerry Nadler is leading the effort to pass H.R. 1808 The Assault Weapons Ban of 2021

H.R. 1808, the so-called “Assault Weapons Ban of 2021,” is being debated in the House, and it would make most firearms owners criminals overnight and would ban all of the most common firearms in use today, even rimfire .22s.

Wednesday, July 20, 2022, H.R. 1808 went for mark-up in the house, and Jerry Nadler wants the bill set for a vote in the House of Representatives before the end of the month.

We here at Wisconsin Gun Owners Inc. (WGO) are worried that it may get the support it needs to pass from feckless Republicans in the House and Senate, despite gun control being at an all-time low in popularity with independent and swing voters.

This semi-auto ban on steroids would rob many folks like you of your legally acquired property, create unnecessary criminals out of the law-abiding, and leave most Americans at the mercy of well-armed criminals.

Not to mention that such a ban would further the political divide in America to dangerous proportions. America needs unity, not a federal government that forces unpopular and unconstitutional laws down the states’ throats.

Recently the Supreme Court ruled in NYSRPA v. Bruen that such a ban would be out of sync with the Constitution and violates the Second Amendment.

Yet, the federal government is going forward with this foolhardy bill, which signifies open defiance of the Supreme Court by the Legislative branch.

During the House Judiciary Committee Hearings on July 20, Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) admitted that H.R. 1808 is meant to ban firearms in common use, even though this directly violates the Supreme Court’s ruling.

They are pushing a bill that will deny natural rights to Americans, knowing full well that it will be struck down in the courts.

But, by that time it is struck down, all of our rights will already have been irreparably harmed.

And to top it off, we have a real-time example of how gun control does not protect communities and how places with more armed citizens are safer overall.

Highland Park, Illinois, has a so-called “assault weapons” ban in place and the country’s most stringent gun control laws, yet a madman was able to kill seven people and wound 36 others.

All those gun control laws failed to stop him. The disarmed bystanders of this tragedy were left at the mercy of a maniac until law enforcement arrived.

Now, let’s compare Illinois to Indiana.

Indiana has a freshly passed Constitutional Carry law, and a man named Jonathan Sapirman, a would-be mass shooter, went to the Greenwood Mall to commit such an atrocity.

Yet, this attempt was cut short, and the gunman was quickly put down by a legal concealed carrier named Elisjsha Dicken of Seymour, Indiana. Sapirman killed three and injured two in comparison to seven dead and 36 wounded in Highland Park.

Once again, the proof is plain as day, more armed citizens = less crime, safer communities, and more lives saved.

Yet, Congress refuses to pay attention to the proof that is right in front of its eyes because some of them take campaign money from deep-pocketed anti-gun interests.

So, we can officially say that gun control is not about keeping people safe but about destroying the Second Amendment to acquire political donations from special interests.

They are selling out your rights to the highest bidder and couldn’t care less if you are safe or not.

We need to stop this bill before it gains momentum and let our politicians know that they will be held accountable for how they vote on H.R. 1808.
